zum Abstract

Key content:
Females report on average worse scores of patient reported outcomes (PRO) than males. This Irish registry study reports a comparison of BASDAI, BASMI, BASFI, HAQ and ASQol on the basis of gender. A total of 857 patients were analyzed, 75% were male. Whereas females had significantly worse BASDAI, HAQ and ASQol scores, they had better BASMI scores. BASFI was not significantly different. Females scored higher for all BASDAI components. The BASDAI component with the highest score for females was fatigue, whereas for males it was spinal pain.

Relevance:
This study shows, that there are differences between female and male patients with AS. Females report worse PRO scores, with fatigue being the most prominent problem, but have a better spinal mobility. This needs to be considered for the evaluation of patients with inflammatory back pain.
