PREGNANCY OUTCOMES IN IDIOPATHIC INFLAMMATORY MYOPATHIES: A COMPARISON TO THE GENERAL AMERICAN POPULATION
Abstract: 1968
Authors: Ana Valle et al.
Key content:
This registry-based study evaluated the rate of term pregnancies, preterm pregnancies, abortions, and living children in 86 women with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies and an obstetrics history. There were a total number of 224 pregnancies. The frequency of elective abortions was similar with that of control females from a US survey and the mean frequency of spontaneous abortions was lower in women with a history of myositis in comparison to the general population. The rate of preterm pregnancies was similar.
Relevance:
Studying pregnancy within idiopathic inflammatory myopathies has been difficult due to limited cases. The lack of poor pregnancy outcome studied in patients with a history of myositis may, however, not apply to pregnant females with active disease.
